Principal’s Splash

Sept. 13, 2020

Hello, Dolphins!

Thanks to everyone for attending the Back to School Night event.  I was able to pop in very briefly to all the virtual rooms and was quite pleased at the turn out.  You are awesome!  And so are our teachers!  Thank you for the presentations and the adjustments to the use of the platform that have been made.  Know that the District is actively listening and making adjustments.  Things just keep getting better making our difficult situation a little easier as time goes by.

If you didn't know, the District will begin bringing students on campus for assessment purposes.  Individuals will come upon request at a set appointment time to work individually with a teacher/specialist to complete needed assessments.  A few weeks after that, the District will begin bringing small groups of students on campus to receive support services.  We are permitted to have no more than 10% of the student body on campus at one time.  We look forward to seeing children and can't wait to begin.

The following notes will help guide you through the week.

Parent Training:  Now, more than ever, parents need to support the learning of their children.  If you would like to learn more about Google Classroom, you can attend a District training.  See the dates/times below.

Volunteer!

Are you interested in being a Seaside Volunteer?  I hope so because it is our heavy parent involvement that makes us special.  We want you!  Go to the Seaside School Web Site and complete the Seaside Volunteer Application.  It is posted under the Forms section.

Please submit your application, along with a copy of your driver's license and TB risk assessment/test to Ana in the office at malulainaholo.ana@tusd.org.  The TB risk assessment/test is good for four years. So, if you have submitted one within the last three years, you're good to go.  If yours has expired, you have up to two months to have it completed by your medical provider from the time you submit your volunteer application, or before you enter campus, whichever comes first.  Please note that your volunteer activities may be limited until your TB risk assessment/test is completed.

Seaside Love Spirit Wear

This year, we have new and improved very, very cute spirit wear.  Thank you, Shannon Eddings!  Follow the link to get yours today!  https://seaside-pta.square.site/

Student Assessments

Kindergarten – 5th grade students will be assessed in language arts and math over the course of two days on Sept. 23rd and 24th.  These assessments are very important and will help us know where each child is in their learning.  We want to teach the children what they need to know, so it is imperative that parents allow their children to take the assessment without help.  To ensure that all families have access to the assessment and understand the tool, we will provide a training on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 4:00 p.m. and then again at 6:00 p.m. for all parents.  A link will be emailed to you closer to the date.

Water Bottle Fill Stations: Please know that we have received a donation from Pedone’s Pizza for a water bottle fill station that will be installed soon.  Anticipated Construction Completion Date is 10/30/20  Great news for all of us!

Playground: We also received a donation to upgrade the primary yard playground.  That project, along with the upper grade playground, will begin in a few weeks.  I will keep you posted about the progress.  We all look forward to returning to a new and better playground.

Sketchers Walk Oct. 25th:  Join us online for the virtual Sketches Walk.  100% of the proceeds will go to Seaside Elementary!!  Register at www.SkechersFriendshipWalk.com

Have a terrific week, everyone!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Bauer, Principal
